rpliy - rpi python web player

NOTE: I re-factored this code recently for a bad attempt at a software design college assignment. The result is located here Spam Project. I got hold of my Raspberry Pi a couple of months ago, only now have I come up with my first simple little project to do on it. The idea is quite simple, a music player with a few twists

How I want it to work:

  • Hook Raspberry Pi up to speakers.
  • Plug in USB Memory stick with MP3s.
  • Device scanned for MP3 files.
  • ID3 Metadata stored into a database.
  • Possibly start Wifi access point.
  • Simple web server on local network.
  • Web app to search database and select a song to play.

This shouldn't be very difficult to implement as it's just a glorified mp3 player. Since it's on a raspberry pi there is some cool potential though. I could run my own wifi network using a wifi stick and it instantly becomes a portable jukebox for any area that people could access on their phones.

There was a very similar jukebox idea myself and a few friends worked on at a hackathon we ran a few years ago, we never finished it however. They had the great idea of having a sort of upvote/downvote system with a song queue. I could add these features in the future but for now I'll be focused on getting the simple concept player working in my spare time.

Install it in a pub, who needs a Dj eh? Let democracy decide what you're listening to! I'll put all of the code on my once it's finished.
